Under 10 Match Report
At last some decent weather and a firmer pitch for the Under 10s matches against Chesham - probably just as well because several absentees would mean that all 14 available would have to play the full 60 minutes.
Downley Devils started the first game strongly with 2 good early moves but Chesham also got into good shooting positions forcing Michael into 2 good saves. Finally, after some defensive heroics by TJ and Ethan Lockyear, Chesham profited from their succession of good through balls to their striker. They didn’t have it all their own way though with a good move finished off my Tom Parfitt. It was Chesham that started the second half stronger but after a terrific scramble in the Downley goalmouth, Tyler scored a great solo break-out goal. Chesham were a bit lucky to equalise with a volley from distance that could have gone anywhere but followed it up with a good goal to take the lead and were only denied a further lead by Michael’s miraculous goal-line clearance. But Downley were not finished and earned a deserved draw with a close range effort from TJ with help from Ethan Litchfield. The crowd enjoyed that one – despite some rather unethical officialdom!.
In the second game, Chesham’s bright start resulted in 2 corners and a goal but Downley hung in and levelled the score just before half time with a goal by Nathan backed-up by a great save by Tom Parfitt. Unfortunately, in the second half, Downley found it hard to keep the ball in Chesham’s half. Chesham were keeping their shape well and Downley were started to look a bit tired. Two very good goals by Chesham near the end of the game were enough to secure victory. All-in-all though, Downley produced some good attacking moves and defended tenaciously against quite strong opposition – the touch-and-pass training is starting to pay-off.
Man of the Match: Ethan Lockyear
