6 GOAL THRILL-RIDE IN ONE OF THE HARDEST MATCHES OF THE SEASON
Downley Dynamos 3 - 3 Bedgrove Dynamos
Sunday 7th March 2010
Having beaten Bedgrove 4 - 2 only a matter of weeks ago, we now met them at home and they had come to win. The match started at a frentic pace with both teams midfields making it very difficult to gain an advantage. An early effort on goal by Bedgrove hit the side of the net and decent efforts from Sam and Matt C went astray. The closest Bedgrove got was kept out my Matt G and two other players who both became keepers for a second or two. So the match was VERY even in pace and effort and Bedgrove were denied again from a great save from Matt Gilbert. Eventually something had to give and James Goodband scored after about 20 minutes. Bedgrove pushed the pace up again but we went into the second-half one goal up.
With both teams continuing to keep things moving speedily along Bedgrove finally bagged a goal from a corner only to be one goal down again after Callum found the back of the net. Not long after Bedgrove are awarded a penalty and the score is now 2 - 2 with only 10 minutes of play left. Once again the battle is mostly played in midfield but Bedgrove score an incredible goal on a break to make it 2 - 3. In the dying minutes Callum goes wide but luck is on our side and after some frantic seconds in the Bedgrove goal mouth, Matt C scores to make it 3 - 3 at the final whistle.
Today's match was exhilarating stuff and there was very little between either team. We managed to gain a single point which is crucial at this stage of the season. Bedgrove were a very good team and I'm sure they will end up towards the top of the table with the skill and determination they showed. A great match to watch but I'm sure a nightmare to play in. Nailbiting stuff!

GOOD TEAM EFFORT AND CONVINCING WIN
Downley Dynamos 3 - 0 Tring Tornados
Sunday 28th February 2010
In what is becoming the norm when we play Tring Tornados, the weather was LOUSY. It had been raining solid for two days and it then decided to sleat half way through the game and the windchill made the temperature drop into the minuses. I reckon Tring should have some sort of 'sun dance' beforehand...or lose the Tornado bit!
However, the weather wasn't going to put us off and Downley went at it as though it was 90 degrees in the shade. Every member of the team worked hard and there was some great football to watch. Matt Gilbert made it look easy and had a clean sheet...good one Matt! The defence worked well (special mention to Dan L who worked exceptionally hard). The midfield tackled hard and passed through beautifully both Sam and Joseph having a good few shots on goal (Sam managing on at least three occasions to lift the ball out of the quagmire and over everybodies head to the forwards). The three goals scored were from Callum who also had a few shots either wide or deflected. Tring are a good team but the hard work and effort from Downley cancelled a lot of their threat out. The one shot that looked like it might result in a goal was kicked clear by Matt Charman and frustration and cold started to creep into Tring (understandably!). You could see in the eyes of the Downley players when Tring were taking a kick-off that they were taking no prisoners and really went for it.
We have a couple of hard matches in the next two weeks but hopefully will keep this winning streak up. If they put as much determination into it as they did today, they'll do it,
Chris Watson

A 'CRACKER' FREE MATCH REPORT! (that we won)
Bedgrove Dynamos 2 - 4 Downley Dynamos
Sunday 21st February 2010
The game was feisty from the off with a fast pace and shots on goal from both sides. Most of the first half was pretty even and we could tell Bedgrove had some quality about them. A few hard tackles were flying in from both sides. Callum scored a great goal after 20 minutes after some great team interplay. Bedgrove came back with some good shots on goal but Matt Gilbert was as resilient as ever and did some cra...erm...GREAT saves! :)
So we go into the 2nd half 1 goal up and, after a frantic pace at both ends, Callum gets a 2nd goal. Bedgrove up the ante and score a very good goal not long afterwards. Once again Callum bags a third goal to make this yet another hat-trick...we're losing count on how many he's bagged now! At 1- 3 Bedgrove come on strong again and score a second lovely goal. After a scramble in the Bedgrove goalmouth Sam scores for Downley. Now at 2 - 4 the game seems to go on forever. Downley nerves are jangling but the boys hold on to come out worthy winners. Now four points clear at the top of the table everyone wants to bring us down and every game between now and the end of the season will be hard fought "must win" contests.

HARD FOUGHT THRILLER BUT WIN PUTS US ON TOP :)
Downley Dynamos 3 - 2 Haddenham Youth
Sunday 7th February 2010
Downley went into this match knowing that a win would put us firmly at the top of the division...but also that a loss may result in Haddenham reclaiming the spot they have held since the beginning of the season. With that in mind, the start was explosive with both teams hungry to win. Haddenham showed us their intention very early on but an amazing double stop from keeper Matt Gilbert kept it 0 - 0. With such a fast pace it put a lot of presure on the defence of Dan L, Adam, Josh and James G but we held it together and after a lot of hard work from both defence and midfield, Callum knocked in the first goal for Downley after 15 minutes. The frenetic pace continued with both teams getting long range shots but no goals...this was never going to be a goal rout for either team though one Haddenham shot would have taken the net out if it had been on target but we went in to the 2nd half with the score 1 - 0.
At the beginning of the 2nd half Callum, Sam and Joseph all had shots on goal but to no avail. Then a pass from a throw-in to Sam resulted in a great pass from him to James Goodband who stuck it in to make it 2 -0. With time running out Haddenham scored after some good play from them to make it 2 - 1. Haddenham, now strengthened by this, threw everything at us but Callum managed to get his 2nd to make it 3 -1. Haddenham had other ideas and snapped another goal to make it 3 - 2. In the dying seconds of the game Haddenham had another shot on goal which was deflected onto the goalpost by Matt Gilbert or it so easily could have been a draw with literally seconds to go!.
Haddenham were definitely a quality team and the passion from Downley to win this game was the only deciding factor. For sheer effort BOTH teams gave 110% and for that reason we are now at the top of the table...just the small job of staying there now!!!

GOAL HAUL CONTINUES!
Downley Dynamos 8 - 1 Flackwell Heath
Sunday 31st January 2010
It was touch and go that the match took place at all today; the match was moved back to Noon to try and let the pitch thaw. Eventually the decision to play was given...thank God it was! If you remember the last time we met Flackwell (in October 09), we didn't really get started and were given a 3-0 hammering. A totally different Downley turned up today and were determined to payback; they did...with interest!
As before, the game got off to a frenetic pace but this time, we joined in! If I tell you that keeper Matt Gilbert didn't have to make a single save in the first half, you'll get the idea. His impression of a snowman was brilliant! After 10 minutes Callum made it 1-0 closely followed after another 5 minutes by his 2nd. Sam then scored a cracker followed by James B to make it 4-0. Sam then drilled another one home to make it 5-0.
The half-time teamtalk certainly got to Flackwell and they came out firing on all six. Their first crack on goal was somehow kept out by Adam and, after steadying the ship, Callum went on to score his hat-trick to make it 6-0. Flackwell were certainly working hard and a couple of strong efforts from them went wide but had Downley working hard in a rock solid defence. Dan Aldridge then hit an absolute cracker but the Flackwell keeper made a great save to deny him.
A tactical change saw Sam and Joseph put into defense to try and keep a clean sheet. This worked well but Flackwell managed to score a goal to make their trip worthwhile...great fighting spirit from this team. Now at 6-1 James Beagles scored two goals (one with his head) to finish it 8-1. A spirited performance from both teams...my only negative comment would be there's still a lack of passing upfront or we could be bagging 12 in games like this. However, as a team we are working very hard and could top the division very soon if we keep on with score lines like this. We still haven't met division leaders Haddenham so we've got to keep on bagging them like this to maintain the pressure.
Good work guys!!!
Chris Watson.

POST XMAS GOAL BONANZA!
Downley Dynamos 9 - 2 Wendover Colts
Sunday 24th January 2010
In this, the first match since 13th December, we expected the guys to be a bit slow and full of turkey and xmas pudding BUT they were up for it from the word go! In an 11 goal thriller the pace rarely dipped and we saw some well crafted passing going on. Matt Gilbert is really making the keeper's job his own with some superb keeping from the off. The first shot on goal was from Wendover but a great save from Matt left it 0-0. After a lot of effort Callum scored his first (of 5!) goals after 15 minutes. For the next 10 minutes there was a lot of effort but no reward and we were thinking that we'd go into the second half a goal up. Then a good pass from Callum to Joseph went just wide of the post but wer were off! Callum scored his 2nd...Matt Charman made it 3 - 0 and Joseph scored a cracker to make it 4 - 0...all of this in about 8 minutes! Finally the half time whistle blew.
In the second half a great save from the Wendover keeper kept it 4 -0 but straight after Wendover got their first goal. This just seemed to wind Downley up and straight after another flurry of goals from Downley; Callum got his 3rd and 4th goal to make it 6 - 1. Another great pass from Callum to Matt C but he hit the post. Loads more chances from Downley but Wendover are fighting back and some fine keeping from them. Callum then gets his 5th of the match and Matt C his 2nd...are you keeping up??? Then Wendover do some nifty passing and score their second to much elation...short-lived however as Dan Aldridge plants a CRACKER (left over from xmas?) to make it 9 - 2 at the final whistle. Phew!
Besides all the goals what was really encouraging was how much great passing was going on. It showed a great team spirit and hopefully we can keep this up and reach the top of the division. Great work lads! :)

EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE BUT WE LOSE WITH CLASS :(
Hughenden Valley 1 - 0 Downley Dynamos
Sunday 13th December 2009
In a high energy game against Hughenden we performed superbly but just couldn't find the net. The early goal from Hughenden in the first half ended up being the decider but in the end we outplayed them...certainly one of their coaches also thought that we were the better team on the day. Another superb goalkeeping performance from Matt Gilbert kept the scoring low. End to end stuff throughout, in the second half I counted 4 shots just off target from Callum, 1 from Sam and many more that I couldn't write quickly enough as they piled the pressure on. The defence worked hard to keep it low scoring on a HUGE pitch. It took some stamina given the size of the pitch but all of the guys worked 110%.
As a team, this was Downley's BEST performance this season and if they can maintain this standard, we can go into the new year with confidence having still a couple of games in hand over Haddenham and Flackwell Heath. So, we lost but came away with our heads held high as we outperformed a quality team this morning.
I just want to wish all the lads and parents, coaches and everybody involved with Downley Dynamos, a HAPPY XMAS and a great NEW YEAR!!!

GOOD TEAMWORK BRINGS AN IMPORTANT WIN
Downley Dynamos 3 - 1 Chalfont Wasps
Sunday 6th December 2009
The game started at a frenetic pace with some great passing and tackling from both teams. Downley kept the pace up and were rewarded with their first goal from Sam who lobbed over the Chalfont keeper to make it 1-0. Almost immediately Chalfont had a good effort saved superbly by Matt Gilbert who had a fantastic game. Over the next 10 minutes Downley bombarded Chalfont with a series of strikes...Eddie nearly got one; Joseph had a shot go wide and Matt C had three go's before finally getting it in the bag on his 4th making it 2-0. Without a doubt this is the best football I have seen so far from Downley this season with lots of good passing and tackling.
Early in the 2nd half we got sloppy and Chalfont bagged an early goal which, as many of you who watch the team will know, is par for the course. We tend to take a while to get firing on all cylinders after the first half. The next ten minutes were a mixed bag of ups and downs before finally putting a renewed effort in. Joseph took a fantastic free kick and scored to make it 3-1 and near misses from Nick and Dan L nearly scored from a corner. Chalfont also had some shots denied by some fantastic keeping from Matt G to end it 3-1 to Downley Dynamos. This keeps the pressure at the top of the division tight with the two teams above us having played 2 more games than us. Hopefully this keeps us in contention for the top of the division in the new year. If the team can produce more football like they did in the first half, it's a certainty.

TRING OFFICIALLY COLDER THAN THE ANTARCTIC...OH AND WE WON!
Tring 3 - 4 Downley Dynamos
Sunday 29th November 2009
If anybody can recall the last time we played at Tring Tornados (last December I think), they will remember that it was SO cold that only 7 of each side played as the other guys tried to thaw out in cars...the guys resembling Emperor penguins all huddled together. The game was very nearly abandoned but we soldiered on and had an impressive win. Today wasn't as bad but it still must be one of the coldest places on the planet...a polar bear was spotted lurking in the undergrowth. Once again we had a win BUT it was much closer this time.
It started ominously when an early free-kick gave Tring a 1-0 lead after only a few minutes. A lot of action in our half but some good keeping from Matt Gilbert kept the ball out as a result of some poor defensive work on our side. Then we notched it up a gear and found ourselves in the Tring goal area...a nice lob from Sam found Matt C who scored a lovely goal...1-1. A nice pass from Callum also found Matty who hit the cross bar on his first attempt but then headed it in on his second...lovely stuff and 1-2. We were really finding our game now and Eddie next found the net just before half-time making it 1-3.
In the second half we again started slowly (as we have a habit of doing) and some sloppy defending let Tring in to make it 2-3. Despite these goals Matt Gilbert was having a very good match but the wet conditions meant that Tring equalised as the ball was just too slippy to get a grip on making it 3-3. The last 10 minutes and we seemed to up our game and Eddie scored a great 2nd goal to finish it off 3-4 to Downley. Overall a good performance with only the slow pace of our second half to think about. It keeps us near the top of the division and hopefully we can work on these 'lulls' of concentration as we have 2 cup matches coming back to back before the Xmas break.

A GAME OF TWO HALF'S...BUT WE SUFFERED IN THE 1ST ONE!
Downley Dynamos 1 - 7 Tring Eagles
Sunday 8th November 2009
Today we met a team from Division 2 for the League Cup...and the difference was apparent. To be fair it was more to do with a will to win in their team than heaps of talent but we took a beating! Tring were up for it from the start and as such, it was lively. They caught us half asleep and scored the first goal after 2 minutes; the scorer going right through the middle of our midfield and defence. This carried on for the next 3 goals and after 20 minutes the score was 0 - 4. Downley started to get their passing together and did some nice runs but Tring were hungrier and sharper to a man. Eddie JUST missed the Tring goal from a good effort just before half-time and James G saved a free-kick but Tring scored from a corner and at the half-time whistle the score was 0 - 5.
After some 'kind words' from the Downley coaches (!), the team started at a brisker pace but were still unable to stop Tring bagging their 6th goal. With some good goalkeeping from Matt C, the next 15 minutes were more even but it was apparent that luck would not be on Downley's side today and Tring scored a 7th despite some good defensive work from Ben and Dan A. There was now sheer determination from both sides; Downley to grab a consolation goal and Tring to keep a clean sheet. Thank God it was the former as Callum (I think tho I can't be certain due to the 18 bodies on the goal line at the time!) 'forced' a ball into the Tring net using whatever limb was available! Much cheering ensued as we had a GOAL!
All joking aside, we were outclassed by a team that were definitely up for this and we were again caught napping early on. Next weekend is another cup match and hopefully we can set our alarm clocks an hour earlier! Here's hoping.

LATE COMEBACK GAINS A POINT IN MONSOON!
Gerrards Cross and Fulmer 3 - 3 Downley Dynamos
Sunday 1st November 2009
Thanks to suicidal driving on the M40 in what can only be described as monsoon conditions, I managed to miss the first half and 10 minutes of the second half due to the motorway being closed. Suffice to say this is a very short review! I'm told that we started well with a great goal from Eddie in the first half. Just as I arrived Gerrards Cross and Fulmer scored two easy goals pretty much one after the other and it looked as though Downley had ran out of steam. However, James Goodband was having none of it and scored two terrific determined goals in the last 10 minutes to earn a much valued point to keep us near the top of the table. Man of the Match award also deservedly went to James G. This draw keeps us on the march to the top!

POOR TEAM EFFORT MARKS 1ST LOSS OF SEASON
Flackwell Heath Minors 3 - 0 Downley Dynamos
Sunday 18th October 2009
In our first loss of the season, Downley never looked like they really wanted to win. A shaky start gave Flackwell Heath an opportunity which was thankfully saved by James Goodband. Our opposition seemed to be playing at a faster pace than ourselves and the passing was much sharper. Overall the first half was very patchy and a shot on goal after about 20 minutes went wide of the Flackwell Heath goal. Some good goalkeeping from James G had kept Flackwell Heath out but a well deserved goal just before the end of the 1st half put the opposition a goal up.
The 2nd half brought a renewed effort from Downley in the opening minutes but decent runs down the right wing by Eddie could not find the back of the net. After Flackwell Heath found their 2nd goal, we spent the rest of the match on the back foot which our opponents capitalised on to score a 3rd. Whilst a lot of players put effort in, a few felt that just getting a boot on it and backing off was enough. This certainly wasn't the Downley of the last 3 matches and this is reflected by the fact that James G made some good stops but 3 goals went past him...Flackwell Heath shots on goal far outnumbering ours. Hopefully it's just a blip and we can get back on track next week.

GOOD SOLID PERFORMANCE GIVES US 3 STRAIGHT WINS
Wendover Juniors Colts 1 - 5 Downley Dynamos
Sunday 11th October 2009
A decent first half and a superb second half gave Downley U-12's their best start to a season yet with 3 wins and 18 goals in total whilst only giving away 4. Early strikes from Eddie, Sam and Joseph just missed the mark but Matt C got his first goal after 15 minutes of determined football from both sides. Downley were getting into the Wendover half but still lacking some teamwork and Wendover had a decent effort denied by some good goalkeeping from Callum. Matt C scored another cracker of a goal just before the end of the first half and Downley went into the 2nd half two goals up. The second half saw a much more controlled effort from Downley with an early shot from Sam just deflected over the bar. Matt C continued his run and got his hat-trick with much stronger tackling and passing by all of the Downley side. Matt very nearly got a 4th goal and Wendover managed to find their first goal making the score 1-3. Callum managed to get on the score sheet with a beautifully taken header and Dan Lazenby also scored a great goal. Wendover came close but a great save from James G as well as some great defending from Josh and Mathuran denied Wendover again. A final long pass from Sam to Callum nearly resulted in a 6th goal just going wide. All-in-all a great performance from everyone on the Downley team and a solid win.
The U-12 team would like to dedicate this win to the memory of U-11 coach Fabrice Meziani who passed away suddenly this week. We send all our condolences to his family.

THE BOYS KEEP UP THE PRESSURE TO DEFEAT CRENDON CORINTHIANS AGAIN
Downley Dynamos 7 - 2 Crendon Corinthians
Sunday 4th October 2009
A fantastic result but one which probably doesn't reflect the game...once again Crendon getting the first goal after the ball was lost and catching us still half asleep. However Downley pretty much levelled the score in the next 5 minutes and continued to bang goals in with the confidence of having beaten their opponents two weeks earlier. It wasn't always pretty football; trying to bring the ball under control and get it on the ground and a lack of passing at the front being the main points. Crendon rarely made a run into the Downley area in the second half but managed to secure a goal to keep their spirits up. But Downley kept the pressure on and with Callum (4), James B (1), Matt G (1) and Dan L (1) all getting on the score sheet, it was another great result. With more teamwork, the guys can go from strength to strength.

EXCELLENT START TO THE NEW SEASON
Crendon Corinthians 1 - 6 Downley Dynamos
Sunday 20th September 2009
A cracking start to the season from the U12's beating Crendon Corinthians by 6 goals to 1. Even more so as Crendon had gone 1 up fairly early on in the game. With goals from Callum (3), Matt C (1), Sam (1) and James B (1), this gave us the perfect start. The boys came away with a lot of confidence and also the news that the next match would be the same team only this time at home. Last season playing on the bigger pitches with the bigger goals is now a dim memory and we can only build on this excellent result. Well done guys.
